Yogyakarta Palace (Keraton Yogyakarta)

Palace building with a magnificent architecture Java and elegant is located in the center of Yogyakarta. The building was founded by Prince Mangkubumi, which was then titled Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono I, in the year 1775. He chose the place to build a palace, right in between the Winongo and Code river, a swampy area that dried.
Kraton is a palace that has religious meaning. Buildings architecture, location of ward, carving, until the color have any meaning.

Building Palace extends from north to south. Front page of the Palace called the plaza north and back page called square south. The design of this building shows that the Palace, Tugu and Mount Merapi is located in one line / axis of trusted as it is sacred. In the past Sri Sultan meditate in a regular place on the axis before leading a meeting or give the command in subordinates.
Palace complex is surrounded by a wall width, called beteng, 1 km long four-square-shaped, 3.5 m height, width 3 to 4 m. In some places in beteng there are gangs or a way to keep weapons and ammunition, in each corner there are bastions holes with small holes in the wall to spy the enemy. Three of the bastions now can still be seen.
Five gates (plengkung-javanesse) in the Palace complex connect with the outside world. There are:
1. Plengkung Tarunasura or Plengkung Wijilan in the northeast.
2. Plengkung Jogosuro or Plengkung Ngasem power in the West.
3. Plengkung Jogoboyo or Plengkung Tamansari in the west.
4. Plengkung Nirboyo or Plengkung Gading in the south.
5. Plengkung Tambakboyo or Plengkung Gondomanan in the east.

Each day began at 08:30 to 13:00 WIB, except on Friday Palace only open up to the strike; 11.00 WIB
